Frequently Asked Questions about Having Your Event at Spertus
(and Their Answers)
What hours are the spaces available for rental?
Many spaces are available during regular Spertus hours as well as earlier and later, with some spaces restricted during hours that Spertus programming is underway. Please call for details.
Please note that the Spertus facility is closed (including facility rental and catering) during Jewish holidays and festivals, and for Shabbat, the Jewish Sabbath, each week from sundown Friday until sundown Saturday.
What is Shabbat and how will it impact my event at Spertus?
Shabbat is an important weekly Jewish observance. For six days of the week our focus is work, but the seventh day—the Sabbath—is a day of rest and spiritual regeneration. Many Jews celebrate this ritual from sundown on Friday evening until the appearance of three stars in the sky on Saturday night, approximately 40 minutes after sunset. The Spertus facility closes at 3 pm on Friday afternoon in preparation, and can be reopened for Saturday evening events after the Sabbath ends.
What time can my event start on a Saturday evening?
This time varies by time of year, based on nightfall. The exact times can be found here.
What is included in the room rental price?
The rental fee generally covers general maintenance of the event space, and one-half hour of set-up and teardown time over and above the four-hour rental. The fee does not include food or beverage, service charges, tax, labor charges, use of audio visual equipment, parking, speakers, or any other miscellaneous charges incurred.
Can I hold my wedding ceremony at Spertus?
