Asher Library has one of the finest collections of online resources in support of Jewish studies in the world. Below, is a list of resources, along with brief descriptions, all accessible via the web.

Asher Library Catalog

Provides access to the Asher Library collection holdings of books, videos, music, and more. Access the Asher Library Catalog

Feinberg e-collection

Available for use only by Spertus students, Spertus members, staff or faculty.

Provides access to eight databases containing the full-text to approximately 800 books and over 25,000 articles in the area of Jewish studies. Access the Feinberg E-Collection "for more information."

EBSCO HOST

Available for use only by Spertus students, Spertus members, staff or faculty.

Access to thousands of full-text journal articles in the humanities, social sciences, business, and other disciplines.

Available for use only by Spertus students, Spertus members, staff or faculty.

Search the holdings of libraries worldwide, containing more than 40 millions books and journals, and access thousands of full-text journal articles in the humanities, social sciences, business, and other disciplines.

Available for use only by Spertus students, Spertus members, staff or faculty.

Contains thousands of full text electronic books in the following subject areas: General Reference, Computer Science/Technology, Business, Consumer Health and World Literature.

FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions)

for EBSCO Host and FIRSTSEARCH databases

EBSCO Host

Q: How do I select a database to search?
A: Click in the box for each database you wish to search, and then click on "enter" at the bottom of the screen.

Q: How do I get a complete list of the journals indexed for each database?
A: Click on the link “complete title list” next to the database name (this option is available for selected databases, only).

Q: How do I know if the database I want contains full-text?
A: Click on “more info” next to the database name. And then, click on “About the database.”

Q: What's the difference between “full page image” and “full text?”
A: Full page image is an exact replica of the article as it looked when it was originally published. To view, you’ll need Adobe Acrobat Reader. (free download — NOTE: you may already have “Acrobat Reader” on your computer. it comes with many systems or included with browser software.) Full-text is the “ascii” (character-based) version of the article.

Q: How do I print (or email) my results?
A: Click on the “Print/Email/Save” icon at the top of the screen.

Q: Where do I get help?
A: Click on the “Online Help” icon at the top of the screen.

FIRSTSEARCH

Q: How do I search the database?
A: Two ways: 1) Enter your search term in the “Search for” window, and then select the database(s) you wish to use, or 2) Click on the arrow to the right of the “Select a topic or database” window, and then enter a search term in the “Search for” window.

Q: How do I get a list of the journals indexed by each database?
A: Only one database currently provides this information. And that is “Eco.” Click on “Eco” at the top of the FirstSearch “home page,” and then click on the “browse journal titles” link.

Q: How do I know if the database I want to search contains full-text?
A: Look for the little “printed page” icon in the column labeled “Full Text” to the right of the database name (next to the column called “Info”).

Q: How do I know if the article I've found contains full-text?
A: Look for the little “printed page” icon in the article citation.

Q: How do I print my search results?
A: Click on the “Print” icon at the top of the page.

Q: Where do I get help?
A: Click on the “Help” icon at the top of the page.
