The Actors Gymnasium Arts Administration Internship offers an opportunity for an emerging professional to learn a broad range of skills in some or all of these areas:

  • Arts Education
  • Non-Profit Administration
  • Program Evaluations
  • Fundraising & Development
  • Box Office & House Management

This internship is designed for an early-career, aspiring arts administrator or a recently-graduated arts admin student who is looking to develop a wide range of skills, experiences and connections that will benefit her/him personally and professionally.  Current college students will be considered if their schedule allows.

Although this is technically an unpaid internship, The Actors Gymnasium will provide an expense stipend of $100 per month during the internship, based on the regular work schedule. The intern will also be able to participate in one free class at The Actors Gymnasium each session for the duration of the internship.


The intern will work directly with the Executive Director and the Education & Administrative Coordinator to gain an understanding of the day-to-day operations of a medium-sized non-profit arts organization.

Program evaluations; teacher, class, and facility organization; class registration, and reports on enrollment trends

Education grants, donor records, research, and events

Contracts, merchandise sales, box office sales, playbill creation, phone support for all Actors Gymnasium activities, and other office functions

Time Commitment:

  • DATES: Two time periods are available –
  • FALL/WINTER:  This internship is ideally September 2through to January 31.
  • WINTER/SPRING:  This internship is ideally January 5through June 5.
  • We will give preference to a qualified candidate who can commit to the entire 9 month period Sept 2, 2014 – June 5, 2015 
  • TIME: 10-12 hours a week, with some flexibility – although a regular weekly schedule will be expected.  The office is open 10am-5:30pm, Monday through Friday. We are closed on most major holidays and for some extended times during the winter recess period


  • An interest in arts education, arts administration, development/fundraising, and circus/physical theatre
  • Customer service experience, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and a friendly disposition
  • Data analysis skills; proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Gmail; the ability to learn new software programs quickly; graphic design & web design skills a plus
  • Attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple deadlines

Note: candidates must satisfactorily pass a criminal background investigation and become certified as a  mandated reporter.
