DESCRIPTION
Facing History and Ourselves seeks an energetic and enthusiastic Development Assistant, who will work closely with the Chicago Development team and who will focus on helping the organization reach a new level of fundraising globally. The Development Assistant will help to support the fundraising strategies that will significantly expand the revenue base of the whole organization. In Chicago, the Development Assistant will conduct prospect research, assist in planning and management of designated house parties, partner with team on Benefit Dinner, and support the efforts of the Major Gifts team and Development department.
RESPONSIBILITES
- Partner with Development team to plan and manage logistics around house parties and community events: conduct targeted outreach; initiate requests for printed materials; create and maintain attendance lists; coordinate logistics; assist with follow-up communications.
- Provide administrative support to Development team's relationships with Advisory Board members: prepare Board and committee meeting materials, transcribe meeting notes, track RSVPs, assist with meeting logistics and communications.
- Maintain Events Database and Development Calendar for events and meetings related to Major Gifts.
- Partner with Development team and Benefit Chairs to ensure successful planning and execution of Benefit Dinner including: kick-off event, program for Benefit, Benefit Committee outreach, coordination with vendors, mailings, registration and follow-up communications.
- Maintain accurate information in the development database – Salesforce.
- Gift processing and acknowledgement.
- Assist Development team with the fundraising processes: collect and research prospect names and track all key information on prospects and next steps on major donors in database.
- Initiate research on individual donors and foundation prospects and communicate with Development team.
- Work with Development team and grant writer to prepare grant applications for local and national foundations.
- Provide administrative support for development and general office activities in the Chicago Office. This includes word-processing, filing, database management, photocopying, faxing, mailings, etc.
- Answering the phone and directing calls to appropriate staff members or taking messages. Providing basic information about the organization to callers and visitors, making follow-up calls for events and meetings.
- Other administrative support, as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS
BA/BS degree
- Interest and experience in fundraising and/or public relations and marketing
- Excellent organization skills, oral and written communication skills, superior attention to detail
- Excellent computer skills, especially MS Office; familiarity with database management; Salesforce experience preferred
- Ability to work individually and as a member of a team; flexibility
- Creative energy, self-starting, ability to handle multiple projects
- Interest in, and ability to articulate, the mission of this non-profit
