A Note From Museum Director Rhoda Rosen

Although our exhibitions are currently closed to the public, we continue to position Spertus Museum as a notable research hub. Being an important address for scholarly research, attracting curators, scholars and artists to our incredible resources, and training the next generation of Jewish museum leaders are important Spertus Museum goals. To this end, we are delighted to announce a new fellowship endowed by Denis Weil to bring scholars to Spertus annually to work with our collection and staff and produce publicly accessible research on contemporary issues of Jewish identity.

In the coming months, staff and volunteers will clean, pack and move Spertus Museum's collection of over 18,000 objects.

Further, we are pleased with the exceptional impact our small staff makes in the broader museum world — by publishing widely, serving on numerous national boards, and actively contributing to our field in professional conferences. One timely example is the American Association of Museum's annual conference, scheduled to draw 8,000 industry professionals to Chicago this May. Spertus staff members are represented on six prestigious panels, presenting on topics ranging from the museum audience experience to the complex issues surrounding restitution of Judaica objects. We look forward to sharing our knowledge – and inviting you to our new space where we will be even better able to serve a worldwide scholarly and cultural community.
