Acquisition Proposals to the Museum Collection
Objects are acquired into the Spertus Museum collection by means of a gift, bequest, purchase, exchange, conversion or any other transaction by which title to the object passes to the Museum. Accessioned objects shall remain permanently in the collection, as long as they retain physical integrity, are relevant and useful to the purposes and activities of Spertus Museum, and can be properly stored, preserved and utilized. Please read the description of collection in the Spertus Museum Collection section to assure that the proposed work fits within the scope of the Spertus Museum collection. Proposed acquisitions are presented to the Collections Committee for review.
If you have a proposal for acquisition please contact Arielle Weininger, Collections Manager, at 312.322.1789 or aweininger@spertus.edu. Please be prepared with the following information (if available): a photograph of the work, type of object, artist name, title, material, measurements, and a history of how you came to own the object. If the proposal is for purchase, please indicate price. If sent by mail, include a self-addressed stamped envelope.
Unsolicited objects brought to the museum building without prior knowledge of the Collections Department will not be accepted.
Spertus Museum employees will not give monetary evaluations or appraisals of objects.
