Carly GreenspanCarly Greenspan Brings New Understanding of Judaism to Chicago College Students

Carly Greenspan raves that Spertus Institute’s Masters of Arts in Jewish Professional Studies program has opened her eyes to an understanding of the Jewish professional world, a world in which she now sees her career path.

Greenspan grew up in West Bloomfield, Michigan, and graduated from the University of Michigan with degrees in English and Judaic Studies. After college, she moved to Israel as a Masa Israel Teaching Fellow and spent a year immersed in the city of Rishon Lezion teaching English to energetic Israeli 3rd and 6th graders. Shortly after, she moved to Chicago, where she works for Metro Chicago Hillel.

Greenspan likes that she can immediately apply what she learns in the MAJPS program to her work. She said, “Working with college students at Metro Chicago Hillel, I see a wide range of needs. Through my Spertus courses, I have learned interesting ways to understand Judaism, and I am able to bring this understanding back to campus.”

She continued, “We discuss Jewish texts and Jewish values, building a platform for understanding the many faces of today’s Jewish community. In learning how to become leaders, we learn to innovate and utilize new ideas.”

Greenspan is particularly fond of the cohort-based format. “The MAJPS program has also introduced me to a great network of other professionals in the Jewish field,” she said. “This allows us to gain insights from each other. It has been a wonderful learning journey together so far.”

Carly Greenspan is the Senior Jewish Life Associate at Metro Chicago Hillel, serving urban college students throughout the Chicago area. She is also a student in Spertus Institute’s MA in Jewish Professional Studies program.
