On October 9, community leaders, friends, and colleagues came together at Spertus Institute for Jewish Learning and Leadership to recognize an act of bold community leadership.

The event celebrated a transformative gift made by Avrum Gray and his family — inspired by the memory of their beloved Joyce — to the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Chicago’s Centennial Campaign on behalf of Spertus Institute. Recognition of the Gray family’s generosity was unveiled above the entryway to the landmark Spertus Institute building. The ceremony also acknowledged generous gifts from the Crown, Harvey Miller, and Ted Perlman families, and the partnership of the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Chicago.

Avrum Gray sees his support as an investment in the formative power of Jewish learning, an investment multiplied many times over as other communities increasingly turn to Spertus for the training of future Jewish leaders. Collectively the support of these families puts Spertus Institute on sound financial footing, poised to fulfill its educational mission far into the future.
