After WWII, single-family suburban homes became attainable on account of plentiful new development, the rise of the automobile, greater affluence, and government-backed mortgages. The new Edens Expressway in 1951 fueled the growth of Niles Township (Glenview, Lincolnwood, Skokie, Morton Grove, and Niles). The area became a magnet for Jews moving from Chicago and in 1957, the Niles Township JCC was built at 4017 Church Street in Skokie. In 1968, the JCC acquired 3.7 acres for a new site at 5050 Church Street, today's Mayer Kaplan JCC.
