Karin Baird is the Acting Director of the Spertus Master of Science in Nonprofit Management (MSNM) degree program. She has been teaching and advising nonprofit professionals at Spertus for more than ten years, sharing her considerable experience about nonprofit organizations.
Dr. Baird received her undergraduate degree in journalism from Michigan State and was hired as director of public relations for the Dane County Chapter of the American Red Cross in Madison, Wisconsin, before accepting a position in public relations with Red Cross headquarters in Washington, DC.
A lifelong contributor to the nonprofit sector, Dr. Baird volunteered in corporate relations and fundraising as well as serving in a number of local government-elected positions. This service led to her interest in pursuing a Master of Science in Human Services Administration (MSHSA) degree (the forerunner of the MSNM) at Spertus.
After completing her MS degree at Spertus, Dr. Baird became the Executive Director of the Chicago District of the U.S. Tennis Association, an ideal position for someone who has played competitive tennis for 25 years.
Dr. Baird then went on to earn her PhD at the University of Illinois at Chicago, focusing her research on a 50-year case study of Hispanic parent/public school relationships in the Midwest during the last half of the 20th century.
