An Event Specifically For Those Who Work In, For, and With
The Organizations That Serve Jewish Chicago

Jewish Community Networking Night — Tuesday, April 21, 2015

David Edell of DRG will discuss the need for a
next generation of leaders

(Chicago) Once a year, Spertus Institute for Jewish Learning and Leadership hosts a gathering for the professionals and volunteers who serve Jewish Chicago. This lively event provides an opportunity for participants to network with colleagues involved with other organizations, celebrate successes, and learn new ways to advance the vital work they do to strengthen the Chicago-area community.

At this year’s Jewish Community Networking Night, participants will enjoy a rare opportunity to hear David Edell of New York’s DRG. An expert on finding and fostering leaders who bring excellence to Jewish and other mission-based organizations, Mr. Edell will talk about what organizations need to do now to prepare a new generation of professional leaders.

The subject of preparing future leaders is extremely relevant and timely. According to a recent report by the Leadership Pipelines Initiative, “the vast majority of Jewish nonprofits — 75% to 90% by some estimates — must find new executive leadership in the next 5-7 years.” Yet “many organizations simply don't have the capacity or expertise to effectively cultivate their talent.”

In addition to David Edell’s remarks and the conversation he will facilitate, winning projects will be announced for the Innovation and Collaboration Awards and Certificates will be presented to individuals completing the third Chicago cohort of the Certificate in Jewish Leadership. The Innovation and Collaboration Awards are a new initiative designed to recognize projects that reach across institutions to serve the greater Chicago Jewish community. The Certificate in Jewish Leadership, jointly sponsored by Spertus Institute and Northwestern University, prepares professionals and volunteers to have maximal impact on the organizations they serve.

Jewish Community Networking Night takes place Tuesday, April 21, 2015, with a reception beginning at 5:30 pm and the program starting at 6 pm. Spertus Institute is located at 610 S. Michigan Avenue. Discount parking is available for $11 at the Essex Hotel (two blocks south).

Thanks to generous grants for the Center for Jewish Leadership from The Crown Family, this event is free. Participants are urged to make their reservations online at spertus.edu/April21 by April 14.

This event is planned under the auspices of Spertus Institute’s Center for Jewish Leadership. Rooted in the belief that great Jewish communities need great leaders, the mission of the Center for Jewish Leadership is to transform Jewish life by cultivating innovative approaches to leadership and enhancing the abilities of Jewish communal professionals and volunteers.
