Days of Awe and Rejoicing

Radiant Gems of Jewish Music

Sunday, September 18, 2011 - 2:00 pm

In celebration of the High Holidays, the acclaimed vocal ensemble Chicago a cappella shared the sounds and feelings of Jewish sacred music inspired by the High Holiday season.

Dr. Jonathan Miller, founder and director of Chicago a cappella, led a discussion of choral music for the High Holidays, with performance excerpts from Chicago a cappella’s new Days of Awe CD (which was released at this event) as well as recorded examples from the last 50 years. In addition to his work with Chicago a cappella, Dr. Miller is a high holiday cantor at Congregation Rodfei Zedek and publisher of Friends of Jewish Music. His expertise in choral repetoire ranges from Renaissance music to African American spirituals to contemporary choral music, both sacred and secular.
