The Making of Hanukkah

To many people, Hanukkah is a joyous December holiday of lights, but it wasn’t always this way. The festival has changed over time, acquiring theological, mystical, political, and cultural significance from the time of the Maccabees to today. In four lunchtime sessions, participants explored texts produced between the 2nd-century BCE and the 19th century CE and discovered how Jews changed the meaning of Hanukkah.
