NEXTwork Lunch & Learn: Jewish Megatrends

Charting the Course of the American Jewish Future

Monday, May 20, 2013 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm

Make more of your lunch hour with new ideas,
new colleagues, and new opportunities!

Our modern American Jewish community is changing in
a big way. What can we learn from these changes, and
how do they impact our work here in Chicago? Find out
from
Rabbi Sid Schwarz, author of Jewish Megatrends,
a new book featuring visionary solutions from fourteen
leading innovators of Jewish life.

Attendees learned:

  • What are some of the changes in the marketplace
(American society) and the market (young Jews) that
require a shift in the way the Jewish community functions?
  • How does a Jewish community, largely built by tribal
Jews for tribal Jews, attract a generation that's
    increasingly "post-tribal"?
  • What principles should guide Jewish institutions that
want to remain relevant for the next generation?

Rabbi Sid Schwarz is an author, rabbi, social entrepreneur, and Jewish leaders. He founded PANIM: The Institute for Jewish Leadership and Values, an organization dedicated to inspiring, training, and empowering Jewish youth to a life of leadership, activism, and service. He previously serviced as the director of the Jewish Community Council of Greater Washington, DC, where he oversaw public affairs and community relations.
