One Book | One Community
is the Chicago Jewish community's celebration of Jewish Book Month. Each year, a single book is selected as the focus of a series of activities and resources. See the sidebar at the right for programs taking place all around the Chicago area.

This year's pick, David Laskin's acclaimed The Family, is a story of hope, survival, and perseverance across the great sweep of the 20th century!

David LaskinWe invited you to meet David Laskin and hear the astounding story behind the writing of his historical memoir The Family. David Laskin is the author of The Children’s Blizzard, which won the Washington State Book Award and Midwest Booksellers’ Choice Award for nonfiction. The author of several other works of nonfiction, Laskin writes for The New York Times andThe Washington Post. He and his wife, the parents of three grown daughters, live in Seattle.
