Help Us Kick-Off Jewish Book Month!

This year the programming kicked off with a joyful afternoon of music and food from three continents.  Readings from this year's featured book — David Laskin's The Family — were presented by WFMT’s Steve Robinson. Music was also performed by Stuart Rosenberg with A Bissele Shmaltz.

Steve Robinson WFMTSteve Robinson is the general manager of WFMT and the WFMT Radio Network. In his 46-year career, he has produced hundreds of classical, jazz, and spoken word radio programs heard throughout the US and the world.

Stuart RosenbergStuart Rosenberg is a Chicago musical icon who has performed with artists as diverse as Sir Georg Solti, Theodore Bikel, and The Moody Blues. A founder of the Chicago Klezmer Ensemble, he has long been involved with the preservation of Jewish music. Watch a wonderful video in which he shares how he got his start in Klemzer music — by playing in an Irish band!  Watch and listen>

What is One Book?

One Book | One Community is the Chicago Jewish community's celebration of Jewish Book Month. Each year, a single book is chosen for a series of activities and resources. This year's winning book is David Laskin’s The Family, named a best book of the year by the Seattle Times, Kirkus Review, and the New York Public Library. See the sidebar at the right for programs taking place all around the Chicago area.

The Family is currently available in hardcover and softcover versions from the Spertus Shop onsite and online. It will also be for sale at all One Book | One Community events and David Laskin will be signing books at his two author appearances on December 7.
