Based on her most recently published book The Rabbi’s Wife: The Rebbetzin in American Jewish Life, Shuly Rubin Schwartz will discuss how certain Jewish women found ways to serve the Jewish people by marrying what they wanted to be—Jewish religious leaders. This research is the first systematic, scholarly treatment of these outstanding women. We will learn about Jewish female religious leadership in America by looking at fascinating stories and priceless anecdotes about rabbis' wives.
Dr. Shuly Rubin Schwartz is the Irving Lehrman Research Associate Professor of American Jewish History and the Dean of Albert A. List College of Jewish Studies at The Jewish Theological Seminary. She is the author of numerous books and articles on modern Jewish life.
