Without prejudice but admittedly partisan, this classic work explores the cultural and historical importance of Jesus to Jews. Rabbi Samuel Sandmel writes from the perspective of Judaism’s liberal wing as he emphasizes one of the most important lessons of our time, that despite theological differences Christians and Jews can create meaningful partnerships and progress toward shared goals.
The discussion is led by Rabbi David Fox Sandmel, rabbi of K.A.M. Isaiah Israel Congregation in Hyde Park, Professor of Jewish Studies at the Catholic Theological Union, and son of the book’s author. From 1998-2001 he directed the National Jewish Scholars project at Baltimore’s Institute for Christian and Jewish Studies, a major initiative to promote discussion within the Jewish community and between Jews and Christians about the differences and similarities between the two traditions.
