Today, kabbalah, Jewish mysticism, is enjoying unprecedented attention. But what, exactly, is kabbalah?

Kabbalah: an introduction by Byron Sherwin

Noted scholar Byron L. Sherwin presents a clear and precise introduction, identifying five models of Jewish mystical experience and thought. Sherwin has been studying kabbalah for 40 years, and his thorough explanation of its background and complexity helps answer the question about whether today’s popularized version has anything to do with real Jewish mysticism.

Author Byron L. Sherwin

Byron L. Sherwin is Distinguished Service Professor of Jewish Philosophy and Mysticism at Spertus, where he also serves as Director of Doctoral Programs. An internationally recognized authority on Jewish theology, ethics, and mysticism, he is the author or editor of 25 books, including Mystical Theology and Social Dissent, The Cubs and the Kabbalist: A Novel, and his latest, Kabbalah: An Introduction to Jewish Mysticism.
