In spite of whatever perception exists of America as a secular nation, for much of their experience in this country American Jews have coped with a de facto establishment of Christianity in public culture, schools, law and politics. How did Jews advance and defend their interests within this reality? What lessons does the American Jewish experience in the 18th, 19th and early 20th centuries hold for Jews today, when religion has returned to the public square?

Led by Alan Mittleman, this Lunch & Learn features discussion of primary source materials from different eras of American Jewish history.
