Jewish biblical interpretation is as old as the Bible itself. Throughout history scholars have sought out its myriad meanings in a variety of ways.
Prominant biblical scholar Leonard Greenspoon outlines the major themes and methods of biblical translation and commentary that have emerged over the past three millennia. By reviewing biblical texts on the controversial subject of warfare, Professor Greenspoon explores the challenges facing translators and interpreters who wish to blend critical scholarship with sensitivity towards Jewish tradition.
Leonard Greenspoon holds the Klutznick Chair in Jewish Civilization at Creighton University, where he services as Professor of Classical & Near Eastern Studies and Theology. From his days as a student at Harvard, Dr. Greenspoon has been interested in interpretations of the Bible. He has written on topics ranging from the earliest biblical translation to versions composed as recently as last year
