The Assistant Director for Recruitment is essential to ensuring that Spertus fulfills its historic mission of invigorating Jewish communities through Jewish education and leadership training. Working within a dynamic Academic Team, the AD for Recruitment often acts as a public face and first contact for the Institute. The position combines Jewish community outreach and prospective student advising in a mission-driven, accredited institution of higher Jewish education.

Position Overview

Spertus Institute seeks a highly motivated, well organized, communicative, and collegial professional to recruit students for all graduate degree and professional certificate programs.

Spertus Institute’s process is continuous and requires personal contact throughout. The Assistant Director for Recruitment is responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive recruitment plan and meeting aggressive enrollment goals across Spertus Institute programs.

The Assistant Director communicates regularly with individuals who are interested in, have questions about, or are applying to Spertus. Working closely with the Registrar, the Assistant Director coaches applicants throughout the admissions process—including applications, acceptance interviews, and enrollment.

Throughout the year, the Assistant Director will create and participate in recruitment programs and networking events. Applicants should have experience in higher education administration, student and alumni engagement, and be familiar with the structure and trends in the Jewish community and the broader world of nonprofits.

Reports to Associate Dean for Outreach

Responsibilities

  • Develop and meet aggressive enrollment goals in all designated program areas.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive recruitment plan in coordination with the Associate Dean for Outreach.
  • Work with marketing staff to develop and distribute recruitment materials, ads, social media messages, and other communications that increase awareness of Spertus Institute degrees and programs and increase the conversion of prospects to applicants.
  • Attend and assist with recruitment-focused events.
  • Meet with prospective students to discuss Spertus offerings.
  • Interface with Spertus staff members—including registrar, academic colleagues, and finance team—to process student applications and admissions.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of an alumni engagement plan as it relates to achieving recruitment goals.
  • Provide feedback to program directors regarding perceived curricular needs based on work with prospective students.
  • Assist with broader institutional committees and specific assigned tasks.
  • Work flexible hours to accommodate meetings with prospective students, events, and conferences, adjusting work schedule accordingly. This includes periodic travel to recruitment events.
  • Track and regularly report on all recruitment efforts, including travel, events, individual meetings, and other recruitment-related efforts and initiatives.

  • Ability to think strategically and execute tactically
  • Strong communications skills
  • Ability to advise prospective students and impart enthusiasm for importance of graduate education and the Spertus mission
  • High degree of attention to detail and outstanding organizational skills
  • Demonstration of a sales mentality and successful sales record, including the ability to establish and meet metrics relating to enrollment goals
  • Collegiality, honesty, kindness, and team-spirit
  • Knowledge of higher education and of the Jewish community
  • Candidate must be a self-starter

Compensation

  • Salary Range: $55,000-$70,000
  • Attractive Benefit Package includes vacation and paid sick leave, medical and dental insurance, retirement savings, employee assistance program, early Friday closures, and Jewish and secular holidays.

Start Date

  • August-September 2020
