What Does It Say to You?

What Does It Say to You?

September 10, 2009 to June 27, 2010

What Does It Say to You? borrowed its title from a classic museum scene in Woody Allen’s Play It Again, Sam. This exhibit was conceived to deepen the conversation between Spertus and its audiences by soliciting responses to its content.

What Does It Say to You? presented more than 60 objects from the Spertus collection along with videos of reactions by various members of our audience. Premised on the assumption that the meaning of an object is enhanced by both curatorial interpretation and the associations and knowledge viewers bring to it, the exhibit encouraged visitors to share their impressions of the works on view.

Spertus exhibitions supported, in part, by a CityArts Program Grant from the City of Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events, The Mayer & Morris Kaplan Family Foundation, The Orbit Fund, and the Illinois Arts Council, a state agency.
