Guests joined us for cocktails, desserts, and a rare opportunity to see brainy, angst-ridden, hilarious, no-holds-barred author Shalom Auslander in Chicago. Mr. Auslander spoke about and sign copies of his new book, Hope: A Tragedy.

Proceeds benefit Spertus — helping
foster Jewish learning and culture.

Shalom Auslander has been called “America’s hottest, funniest, most controversial young Jewish memoirist” and his work has been dubbed “blackly hilarious” by The Times of London. He has published articles in Esquire, The New York Times Magazine, Tablet, and The New Yorker, and is a regular contributor to Public Radio International’s This American Life. He is the author of the short-story collection Beware of God and the acclaimed memoir Foreskin’s Lament. His novel, Hope: A Tragedy, was just released to rave reviews!

“Shalom Auslander writes like some contemporary comedic Jeremiah, thundering warnings of disaster and retribution. What makes him so terrifyingly funny is that he isn’t joking.”

of the Man Booker Prize
