Lay Leadership Academy

Lay Leadership Academy to Provide Toolkit of Expertise for Organizational Board and Committe Members

On Sunday, February 4, Spertus Institute's Center for Jewish Leadership will offer a three-hour-long boot camp, of sorts, for the dedicated members of our community who serve as presidents, board members, and volunteer committee leaders of Jewish organizations.

The Lay Leadership Academy will kick off with a talk by Dr. Leonard Saxe, one of the leading scholars on the state of Jewish communal life in North America. In a presentation titled The Guide for Perplexed Trustees: An Expert Road Map to the Changing American Jewish Landscape, Dr. Saxe will share research and insight on the challenges that Jewish organizations face today and the obstacles and opportunities that lie ahead.

Following Dr. Saxe’s presentation, participants will be able to participate in a choice of tbreakout sessions, taught by topic experts:

Dr. Saxe is the Klutznick Professor of Contemporary Jewish Studies and Social Policy at Brandeis University. A noted social psychologist, he leads research on Jewish identity, education, and socio-demography. He has been a Fulbright Professor at the University of Haifa, a science fellow for the U.S. Congress, and received the American Psychological Association’s Early Career Award for Distinguished Contributions in the Public Interest.

The Lay Leadership Academy will take place at Spertus Institute, 610 S. Michigan Avenue in Chicago. Discount parking is available for $8 at the Grant Park South Garage.

The program will begin at 1 pm and end promptly at 4 pm, leaving plenty of time before the Super Bowl kick off.

Tickets can be purchased at spertus.edu. Advance tickets are highly recommended.

Spertus Institute is a partner with the Jewish United Fund in serving our community.

THE SPERTUS APPROACH

Spertus Institute cultivates an atmosphere of lively discourse. We often hear from students and participants that their Spertus experiences are inspiring and transformative. That is by design, and it results in meaningful opportunities for personal and professional growth.

The Center for Jewish Leadership is supported by generous grants from the Crown Family. We are grateful for their support.
