The Original Musical Films and Their Jewish Stars

How do the 1927 American film The Jazz Singer and 1934 Soviet film Happy Guys connect? Both of these early musical films were created largely by Jewish crews. Both featured Jewish lead actor/singers—Al Jolson and Leonid Utesov—who were both born in the Russian Pale. In this session, discover the fascinating backstories of these films, their creation, and their impact.
