William Schwartz (1896-1977)

William Schwartz experimented with a wide variety of modernist styles, including simplified naturalism, Cubism, Surrealism, and even pure abstraction devoid of reference to the natural world. This openness to stylistic influence was characteristic of Chicago art in the first half of the 20th century, and as a result, no single “Chicago” style developed during this period.
